Job Description:

Qualification and reliability Engineer is responsible for the planning and execution of qualification and reliability testing of Acacia products and publishing reports for the same. You will be involved in defining requirements, developing test platforms, fixturing, and software, managing testing, along with validating and reporting test data associated with Ongoing Reliability Testing for novel photonic packages and die.

You will use your knowledge and experience in Optics design, manufacturing, testing, and reliability to ensure that product designs continue to meet Acacia and industry quality and reliability standards. You will also investigate failures and work closely with Design and Process Development teams to determine failure root cause and implement reliability improvements. These efforts may involve driving design and process DOEs and re-qualification by conducting stress tests to validate design and process improvements.

You will closely work with design engineering and Manufacturing in component/vendor failure analysis to drive corrective action and qualification. You will lead the failure analysis and work with contract manufacturers, Acacia personnel and component vendors on necessary preventive actions. Occasional support is required for customer audits and meetings with Acacia customers to address quality and reliability related questions.

Required Skills & Experience

BS or higher in Optical/Electronic Engineering, Physics, or Materials Science preferred

At least 5 years of experience in quality and reliability engineering for optical communications components and systems

  • Development of qualification plans for new product introduction and second sourcing
  • Development of custom test racks and software to drive qualification testing
  • Accelerated lifetime testing including HTOL
  • DFMEA (Design Failure Modes and Effects Analysis) and DFR (Design for Reliability).
  • Qualification testing including damp heat, thermal cycling, mechanical shock and vibration, ESD, fiber integrity
  • Experience with Design for Reliability and Physics of Failure Analysis techniques and models
  • Failure analysis
  • Telcordia and JEDEC qualification and reliability standards related to module assemblies and associated components, e.g. die, passives optical components, capacitors, diodes
  • Supplier audits
  • Physical and electrical characterization techniques
  • Materials experience & expertise including fiber optics and photonic components, adhesives, ceramics, fibers, metals, fatigue
  • Process experience & expertise including photonic and electronic packaging, die bonding, wire bonding, welding, evaporation, corrosion control
  • Experience in optical component technologies, interconnect quality requirements and reliability test methodologies. Silicon Photonics packaging or reliability assessment experience is a plus.

Knowledge of programming languages/software such as Python, Matlab, and Labview desirable

Hands-on experience with optical transport systems, high-speed ASICs, PCBA's, mechanical assemblies, and optical component design desirable

Great communication skills across organizations, and with vendors and customers
